Thunder Power Polls

After 3 weeks:

1. ...And Looking to Score:  They are really good team.  Sorry KMBOMT, it was a tough decision, but you won 11- 1 to a team that has not found their groove yet this season.

2. Kick Me Baby, One More Time:  Upset about being number two?  I would be, as well.   08/06 will be the matchup of you and ALTS.  Don’t look too far ahead though.

3. Wanna Be a Baller:  I know, you are probably upset about being number three when the standings say you are number one.  When you play someone in the top half of the standings we will talk.

4. Stepdads:  Stepdads lost by 1 run to the number 1 team and it was a helluva game.   I would not be surprised if they go undefeated the rest of the season.  Better watch out Wannabes…

5. Hoof Hearted?  This is for real.  From a group of people who makes gas jokes and wears poop colored shirts to being a KICKBALL TEAM.  They have the tie and two wins.  If they keep this up, who knows where they will end up at the end of the season.

6. Pink Tacos:  Season is early, You took care of business last week and it will be up to you if you finish top 3 or top 5…

7. Ballsagna:  Way to bounce back and play really well and win against the fresh kicks.
Tomorrow will be when I finally get to see you play… Sorry it will be from the other side.

8. Bad News Beers:  9 runs is a really good game.  Can’t wait to see more of you this season.  I have heard good things about your pitcher.

9. It Burns when I Kick:  A team that had to take the forfeit, yet looked like they could have won easily if they had everyone show up.  This team is far better than number nine.

10. I don’t usually do this, but I can’t really decide between the last four how to rank them.  So I will just give a tip to each team from what I heard/saw the last couple weeks and hope you all pick it up!

a. Fresh Kicks of Bel Air:  This is going to sound obvious… but you got to score more.  In two games, 1 run.   Don’t be afraid to bunt and get some on base and give your team a chance.

b. Kickin Nuggets:  You have played really good teams so far, it is going to level out.  Don’t get discouraged.

c. 99 Problems But A Kick Ain’t One:  I have seen a lot of tinkering, and I just missed seeing you out at the park for practice.  You have played some pretty good teams, too, so focus on the next game.

d. We Got The Runs:  Your team is the irony of last place.   12 runs scored is more than a, b, and c combined yet you are in last place.  So, you gotta watch the big plays and keep the runners at bay.

Hey Thunder Conference!

I am so glad to be your commissioner.  Not only are we the sexier conference, we are going to win the all star game.   Captains, please see me at the fields so I can give you instructions on how to turn in your all-stars to me!

After Week 2:

1. Kick Me Baby, One More Time --  They handled business against a very good Pink Tacos team.  KMBOMT has been impressive with good strategy and play.  They might stay at number one the rest of the season.

2. …And Looking to Score – I wanted to put them first, since the Stepdads play them this week.  But let’s be honest they have more to prove.   They beat BNBs and that was the BNBs first game this season, their first win was against a brand new team to WAKA.  This week we will see where they should be.

3. Stepdads – Week 1 beat a very talent team and week 2 played in the rain and chalked up another win.  As stated earlier, with 2 and 3 playing this week things are going to be shaken up soon.

4. Wanna Be a Baller – This team came out of nowhere.  I haven’t gotten to see a lot of their play but according to one of their players “They Killed it, They Killed it, they just killed it”  And yes, she did say it just like that.  So we will see if they can keep it up.

5. Pink Tacos – The best of the one loss teams.  They lost to the number 1 team and they get a week off to lick their wounds.  They will bounce back and I am sure they will not get too far down from the loss.

6. Bad News Beers – Holding ALTS to just 4 runs is impressive.  I have seen this team out at practices on the weekends and they are going to get better.

7. It Burns When I Kick – I saw you play firsthand the first week, and the second week you put together a great performance to put away We Got the Runs.  8 runs in the rain is impressive.

8. Hoof Hearted? – A tie the first week to a team that lost 14-0 the second week.  But Your win against 99 Problems was impressive.  I watched some really good base running.  Keep it up and you will be in the top 5 in no time.

9. Ballsagna – I know you are better than the record you have.  I am going to watch your game this week so I can have a better idea of your team play.  You have too many veterans to be this low, so I expect a big turnaround.

10. Fresh Kicks Of Bel Air – You didn’t get to play in the rain, and the first game you got to play ALTS.  Let’s see what your team got out of the bye week and see what comes of your game against Ballsagna.

11. 99 Problems But a Kick Ain’t One – Season is early and I saw your team tinkering with
different lineups in the field.  I saw some positives and I can see areas that you are already improving.  This week is going to be a challenge as you play KMBOMT.  Remember Defense wins championships!

12. We Got The Runs – You have had a tough schedule so far. 1st game was KMBOMT then played a very good team IBWIK.  You did score a few runs on IBWIK and hopefully we can see more from you all this week against Bad News Beers.

13. Kickin’ Nuggets – It was a lot of fun playing your team in the rain.  I was really impressed with the catches your team made.  That second baseman and right fielder caught everything that went their way.  Including the jello shots we gave out to congratulate them.

Thunder Conference is going to be stacked as we take on the Lightning Conference in the All-Star game coming up.  Captain's start letting me know soon who your team has selected as your representatives.

After Week 1:

1. Pink Tacos:  Returning teams always have an advantage early in the season as they took on the new Kickin’ Nuggets.   It’s still early in the season, but with a big win they are the team to knock off the Number 1 spot!

2. …And Looking to Score (ALTS):  ALTS is another perennial favorite.  They have been around a few seasons and have won two championship games.  Looks like these top two teams won’t play in the regular season so the power rankings will be decided by the rest of the conference.

3. Kick Me Baby, One More Time (KMB):  KMB has been here before, but they took off a few seasons.  I heard a rumor they went to a Tibetan Kickball Retreat and centered their collective kickball chi.   I will keep my eye on them and get more info…

4. Stepdads:  Game was called after 3 innings due to darkness.   Would like to see how they fair after a complete game, but they did have a comfortable lead before the game was called.

5. Ballsagna and Hoof Hearted? :  They tied.  What else am I supposed to do?  I could tell you which team I think is prettier, but that would make a lot of people mad.

7. It Burns When I Kick (IBWIK):  IBWIK is much better of a team than their first showing.  They have a lot of returning players and they just got off to a bad start.  I expect this team to be in the top 6 at season’s end.

8. We Got The Runs:   They played the number three team in their first game of their lives.  Scored three runs.  I am thinking they will improve and they are one of the new teams I am going to be paying attention to all season.

9. Fresh Kicks of Bel Air (Fresh Kicks):  Fresh Kicks, welcome to WAKA!  ALTS had the advantage early, but I think after a few weeks you will balance out and be competitive.

10. Kickin’ Nuggets :   If this was the team name rankings they would be much higher.  I really think they are a good team and just faced a great team the first week.  That being said, it won’t be easier for them next week as they play Stepdads.

The other teams:  Their games were called because of lights or they were the bye team.  I am going to get to see them play this week and see if they crack the top ten!

Thunder Conference is really looking good.  I am proud to be their conference commissioner and am already looking forward to the all star game.  Captains, be sure to start talking to your teams now about the best girl and guy on your team that will play in our all star game!  We have to take down the Lightning.  Stay tuned as Speegle and I come up with a friendly wager on the all star game... any suggestions?

Watch Out Thunder Conference:
Speegle will do anything to win, even dress as a girl.

Preseason

On this page I, M.G. Govia, Jr., your conference commissioner will be writing up power polls from week to week.  It won't always be determined by wins and losses, but who is heating up, who is going through a slump, or who has given me the most beer may all be factors in determining the best of the Thunder Conference.

This season starts tomorrow night and I haven't seen all the teams in action.  I will have my scouts taking notice and I always prepare my team with game film and jello shots.

If you are in my conference you haven't met me yet... here is a picture of me:

OK, this picture may be a few years old...

Here is me with some kickballers in a van, and checking out Roller Derby.
